       On October 24th, 1945, the charter of the united nation consecrated the birth of the U.N.O as an international organization. it was created to promote world's peace and security and to encourage social progress. its successes in the fields of social develpment, decolonization human rights, disarmament and peace keeping have been the major achievements in the second half of the twentieth century. The U.N represents the people's highest aspirations towards a world free from wars, poverty oppression and sufferings.
      Celebrated in 1995, the 50th anniversary coincides with a turning point in modern history. in fact, quick changes having incalculable impact are taking place on the world's political scene. countries which tought, no longer ago, that they were completly autonomous, are now intimately linked together, if they have to live in a world where peace justice and prosperity prevail.
      The 50th anniversary has not only been an occasion to think about the results so far obtained, but also to define the orientations for the next century. in the years to come, the U.N will be more indispensable. it will have a greater efficiency than in the past if the peoples and governments are conscious of the role it can play in bringing them closer to each other around the same goals.

On April 22, 1990, more than 200 million people from 140 nations joined in celebration of Eath day in one of the largest demonstration in history . The participants spent the day panting trees, protesting industrial pollution. Learning how to recycle waste, and calling out to world leaders to pass new laws to protect the plant's environment.
Many years later, there is unfortunately still much to heal. The list of environment problems plaguing the planet is long and growing. Many, such as global warming and depletion of the ozone layer, were unknown just a decade ago. However, there is reason for optimism. Solutions are being developed and progress is being made.
The progress can be measured in the fight to control air pollution. Industrial plants and motor vehicles pump out several hundred million tons of sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and soot into the air every year as waste products. But technological advances that were not around two decades ago have reduced the flow of these contaminants into the atmosphere. Scrubbers and other devices filter the gases emitted by factories trapping much of the waste produced catalytic converters make car engines work more efficiently and reduce the amount of smog- producing compounds released into the air.

Text: The earthquake, which measured 6.7 on the Richter scale and was felt as far away as Spain, was Algeria worst in more than twenty years . The earthquake devasated numerous towns throughout Boumerdes on May 21,2003 at 7:44 pm, when families were gathering for dinner. It killed 2.200 people and at least 20.000 families homeless. When the earthquake hit, Algerian Red Crescent staff and volunteers were quick to respond to the disaster, participating in search and rescue efforts, providing first aid, transporting the injured to hospitals, mobilizing blood donors and distributing relief goods. Following the disaster, the Internatioal Federation launched an appeal for immediate response for quake victims. Many National Red Crescent and Red Cross societies sent their sescue teams and sniffer dogs to search for survivors trapped under the rubble. Now the Federation is supporting the Algerian Red Crescent to provide up to 40.000 people with essential assistance over the next few months, in the form of food, water, tents adn relief items. As well as providing material assistance, they will also continue to provide vital psychological support services to traumatized people.
